welcome to berwins

No-one comes to us because they're looking to be treated as a number, to be processed. They come because they have something important to be dealt with, and they need it to be looked after by lawyers whose values match their own.

At Berwins we have a passion for what we do; we care deeply for the needs of our clients and the quality of the work we do for them; we work with them to achieve what they need, taking ownership of their issues and of their quest to find solutions; and we strive to be accessible on our clients' terms, not our own.

We hope this makes us special - that's our challenge to ourselves.

Welcome, then, to our online office – please come inside.

Living in harmony?

Official statistics published at the end of January 2010 show the number of divorces per year has fallen to an historic low; just short of 122,000.  That compares with around 128,000 the previous year and continues a trend of decreasing numbers over the last five years.  This is in contrast to what was predicted as a result of the recession (divorce rates historically rise after recessions) although that may still be to come.

Are we living more happily and harmoniously?!?  Counselling and various forms of therapy are becoming more accessible and less taboo and couples are working hard to get through tough patches.  However, the statistics, as ever, don’t tell the full story.  One reason divorce figures are dropping is because less people marry in the first instance.  There are no real figures for break-ups for cohabiting couples.  Nor does it reflect the trend in people seeking to regulate the terms of their relationships more proactively, with the use of Pre-Nup or Cohabitation Agreements.

Whatever your situation, we’re here to assist.  Even if things have passed the point of no return, we strongly recommend the use of the collaborative approach as the best possible way of working through a breakdown in a family relationship.  Please follow the link for further information.
