Good morning from the newly crowned Berwins Fantasy Football champion!!
Tuesday evening saw a dramatic end to the Berwins Fantasy Football season after another keenly contested season for the coveted Berwins Fantasy Football trophy! After the crazy events at Old Trafford on Sunday (#someoneisgettingfired) the 11 entrants were sweating for a further 3 days to see who would be crowned champion, wondering if they had selected the correct players for the final matches of the season.
After 37 weeks of fierce (sorry, friendly) competition and much discussion between the managers on Monday morning after the previous weekends action including how many points they had scored and when they would play there “bench booster” or “triple captain”, there was only 4 points between 1st and 2nd place going into the final weekend. Yes, it was even closer than the Premier League title race!
Defending champion “KFC”, managed by Kirsty Campbell (although the other managers have a strong suspicion that her boyfriend may actually be managing the team..), was looking to defend her title from last season and had been a front runner for most of the season had a 4 point deficit to make up on "Stewart’s Superstars" managed by myself (Jason Stewart). The nerves were certainly jangling in the office on Friday afternoon as to who would come out on top.
Former champion “Bayern Middlesbrough” managed by Hayley Maxwell still had an outside chance of victory in 3rd place going into the weekend but maybe the emotional trauma of watching her team Middlesbrough securing promotion the weekend before had got to her.
Last year’s runner up “Berwins Birder” managed by Stephen Root had, like his team Chelsea, fallen away into mid table obscurity and will have to come back firing next season to see if he can take the crown!
There were the usual ebbs and flows of a game weekend with the lead changing on more than one occasion between “KFC” and "Stewart’s Superstars” and going into Tuesday night’s final match “KFC" had re-established her lead at the top. Thankfully for “Stewart’s Superstars” the new Premier League wonder kid, Marcus Rashford, came up trumps scoring and getting 2 bonus points to secure the Berwins Fantasy Football Trophy for the team, finishing 6 points ahead of “KFC” and taking the title.
Thanks to all who took part this season, it's a great bit of fun and provides a lot of light hearted banter in the office throughout the year. The trophy presentations will take place in the next couple of weeks so keep an eye on the Berwins Facebook and Twitter pages for that.
Here’s to the 2016/17 season, will Leicester retain the Premier League title? But more importantly will “Stewart’s Superstars” retain the Berwins Fantasy Football crown or will there be a new winner?
