Flexi Dad

On 16 April 2015 my life changed forever. Why? This was the day I became a dad for the first time, as our beautiful daughter Olivia was born.

Like every new parent, there was the fear of the unknown. But you learn to adapt and change, both at home and at work. Looking back, those first few days, weeks and even months all seemed to blur into one and go so quickly.

As a working dad, it’s all about trying to strike the right “work life” balance and flexibility that we hear so much about. This doesn’t mean working fewer hours, being less accessible or providing a lesser quality service to our clients. It’s more about how and when we work, and that doesn’t mean we always have to be in the office between the hours of 9am and 5.30pm.

A work life balance is something that’s recognised at Berwins and to help achieve this, the ability to work flexibly is available to not just me (as a parent) but to everyone working here – an invaluable benefit to have.

Now that my wife has returned to work and Olivia is in nursery, it’s this flexibility that allows me to be in the office earlier on a morning and then leave to beat the traffic on the days that I need to pick her up.

By being able to work remotely, take calls and pick up emails away from the office means I can deal with what needs dealing with when needed. This makes sure both clients and colleagues receive the service and help they need and have come to expect – while at the same time giving a dad quality time to enjoy with his daughter!

After all, it’s what we at Berwins are all about – accessibility, teamwork and care!
