Once upon a time there was a Leeds Digital Festival – but by 2013 it had shrunk to 5 events (ours was one), then it died. But now the Leeds digital scene is bouncing – agencies, software companies, start-ups and big businesses being drawn to Leeds, growing, thriving. And coming along is the new Leeds Digital Festival – something completely different.
We’ve got seed funding from Leeds City Council, and some serious sponsors lined up. We – Berwins – are involved at the ground floor, keeping an eye on the legals and with me acting as one of the directors of the organising company, Leeds Digital Festival Limited (not for profit). We’re combining with the Live at Leeds Music Festival to create a music and digital festival on the week beginning 24 April, starting with digital and moving into the ten-year-old music events and Unconference at the weekend.
Last week – 1 December - we kicked off with 80 people thronging the Belgrave Music Hall, throwing out ideas to make this a brilliant event for Leeds and the City Region. Keep an eye out, and join in! Follow us @LeedsDigiFest16
