At the time of writing it’s 9am Saturday morning and I am just setting off to London to take part in a 100k night cycle for Women -v- Cancer.
Yes, that’s 100k, on a bike, in the dark, wearing Lycra – and yes I blame Paul Berwin.
Ever since I arrived at Berwins in 2005 Paul Berwin has either been running, swimming or cycling his way to raise money for charity. Now after a while, however much you try and fight it, it does rub off.
Not a year goes by without there being a team of staff training for either a marathon, swimathon, pedalathon or walkathon. Berwins must have shares in some sportswear company by now with the amount of gear these people buy!
And now it’s me – doing exactly the same – and it’s actually quite brilliant!
Having completed 87k in 4hrs 2mins (not quite Mr B’s standard yet!) last weekend, I am pretty confident about tonight’s ride. Training in and around North Yorkshire it has been almost impossible to avoid a fair few hills. Tonight’s ride is almost all flat, a treat which I am actually looking forward to!
So whilst you are all enjoying a well-earned glass of wine this evening and the delights of the BGT Final, spare a little thought for me (and the other 3000 ladies who are joining me) as I set off on my bike at 9pm for (hopefully no more than) 6 hours in the saddle.
I am blogging again tomorrow to let you know how I got on – so watch this space …………….oh – and thanks again Paul.
