My time at Berwins has so far been relatively short, having only joined the team in November 2013.
I was a newly qualified solicitor who was very anxious at joining a new firm and being let loose on clients as a qualified solicitor rather than a trainee. I had trained at a local firm and therefore I had previous dealings with Berwins and knew of their reputation in the area.
I initially joined Berwins as a locum solicitor to provide assistance to the other family lawyers during the Christmas period. I was made welcome right from the start and felt part of the team instantly. All the worries of joining a new firm soon vanished and my confidence levels increased as more and more work piled onto my desk.
As a locum solicitor, who had only been here for a few weeks, I had not expected to be invited to the office Christmas party. I was thrilled to get an invite and despite having a terrible cold, I dragged myself to the party and had a fantastic time. The party was most definitely memorable………and they get better year after year!
The day after was set to be my last day at Berwins and I was due to meet with our Managing Director to see whether or not they could offer me a full time position. However, I woke up to find that I had left my house keys in the car the night before and my husband had locked me in the house when he left for work. I would love to blame it on the alcohol……..but I had been sober at the party the night before!
After dragging my mum out of bed to travel 45 minutes to my house with the spare set of car keys, I finally got into the office to enjoy my last day at Berwins. Two and half years later, I am still here and still enjoying every minute!
A lot has changed over the last 3 years but the support and team work shown at Berwins has gone from strength to strength. As I write this blog, I am currently travelling to London to start a new chapter in my career and train as a collaborative lawyer, an opportunity that is all down to the support and encouragement that I receive from my fellow 'Berwiners'!
