We acted for an employer client in relation to a complex and highly sensitive tribunal claim for sex and pregnancy discrimination, breach of contract and unpaid wages brought against the company and 2 senior managers by a female member of staff.
The potential value of the claim if successful at tribunal was in excess of £50,000 and the claim was listed for a 3 day hearing. We prepared and drafted the defence, dealt with disclosure of documents and represented the client at the case management and preliminary hearings.
Following the tactical and lengthy negotiations with the claimant’s solicitors, we achieved a settlement of £8,000 without the need to go to the full hearing. This was an excellent result for the client, given the significant risks in defending the claim, the value of the claim, and the potential negative publicity and damage to the client’s reputation.
