Mike is a trustee of Disability Action Yorkshire and an active member of Harrogate Chamber of Trade and Commerce.
Mike is an experienced employment lawyer who has worked for regional and national law firms, having qualified in 2006. He has gained invaluable experience working in house for public and private sector organisations, including the Department of Health, Harrogate Council and a public manufacturing company, advising all on a wide range of day to day employment issues.
Mike provides practical, commercial advice to employers and individuals on all aspects of employment law and HR issues, including policies and procedures, dismissal, maternity issues, sickness absence, changes to terms and conditions of employment and redundancy (both individual and collective). He also advises clients on the enforceability of restrictive covenants, TUPE and employee issues (including service provision changes) on corporate transactions and procurement projects.
Experienced in dealing with contentious issues, Mike appears in the Employment Tribunals on behalf of clients in respect of many types of claim, including unfair dismissal, discrimination and wages.
To ensure clients are kept up to date with the latest changes to employment law, Mike conducts regular seminars and bespoke training sessions when needed.
In addition to his employment work, Mike works closely with Berwins’ Commercial and Digital teams advising businesses on a range of commercial agreements, including terms and conditions for the sale of goods or supply of services, consultancy and shareholder agreements – ensuring that their goals are achieved and needs are protected.
Mike is a member of the Employment Lawyers’ Association and Society for Computers and Law (SCL)
As an avid sports fan (both playing and watching), Mike enjoys playing hockey (for Leeds HC), football and golf.
