The event, part of Berwins’ year long commitment to the Harrogate based hospice, will see competitors taking to static bikes to complete in two cycling challenges.
King of the Mountains
Individuals or teams representing local businesses will test their mettle against one another with the challenge to cover the greatest ‘distance’ over a 30 minute period.
With a punishing simulated route, designed to mirror some of the terrain on ‘Le Tour’ this promises to be a real challenge for Harrogate’s aspiring cycling superstars and, while an award is on offer for the winning team, local bragging rights are the real prize for the top performer.
While businesses push themselves in 30 minute bursts, members of the Berwins team will be active throughout the day as they work to complete the 122.5km which comprises the second leg of the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire, which finishes in Harrogate on Saturday 29th April.
With a mix of seasoned cyclists to those less used to spending time on two wheels, this promises to be a great challenge which the whole team is backing.
Reflecting on the event, Hollie Marcham, chair of the firm’s CSR team said “From triathlons to knitted bikes, we’re no stranger to taking part in cycle events, so we couldn’t let the arrival of a major sporting event in Harrogate go unmarked.
“Many of us at Berwins are keen cyclists, so to tie this to something else which is close to our hearts – our commitment to our local community and charitable partners – was a natural fit.”
Progress can be followed throughout the day via social media with the #CycleForSaintMichaels tag and support can be pledged driectly via Berwins' charity page.
